AI hardware growth is broadening into supporting technologies: hybrid bonding increases interconnect density, more complex chips require more testing, and component availability continues to constrain server deliveries. Meanwhile, rising memory prices are affecting PC and smartphone configurations. Apple’s foldable launch is expected to drive market-share shifts before meaningful category growth.

Premarket Takeaways

The fundamental focus in technology is expanding from chip demand to complete-system deliveries. TSMC’s US-dollar revenue growth and stronger monthly sales at server manufacturers point to continued demand support. But mismatches in memory, CPU, circuit-board and passive-component supply mean that converting new demand into revenue on schedule increasingly depends on supporting capacity. Advanced packaging and testing warrant close attention.

Price increases are also revealing buyers’ budget constraints. After a sharp rise in average selling prices, Kioxia is emphasizing pricing restraint and seeking long-term contracts to secure demand. PC manufacturers face a choice between raising prices at the expense of volumes and absorbing costs at the expense of margins. Apple’s foldable is expected to capture substantial share, but global foldable shipment forecasts remain nearly flat. Brand-level shifts should be distinguished from category growth.

AI and Semiconductor Supply Chain

CSPs and Cloud Capital Expenditure

  • Amazon: Its cloud business is reportedly working with SK Group on a major AI infrastructure project in South Korea, extending cloud investment into regional hubs. SK has positioned Ulsan as the first location in a potential 15 GW buildout; this represents planned capacity.

The Yeongnam cluster, exceeding 2 GW, also involves connections between data centers, potentially extending demand into power, cooling, networking and fiber.

Separately, supply-chain sources expect Amazon and other AI-chip customers to begin adopting TSMC’s SoIC-X from Q4 2027. Infrastructure construction and chip-packaging adoption follow separate schedules and should not be treated as a single order.

  • Google: The key packaging development is the timing of SoIC-X adoption. Supply-chain sources expect customers including Google to begin adopting the technology from Q4 2027, with 2028 potentially pivotal for broader deployment.

Hybrid bonding shortens chip-to-chip connections and increases interconnect density, improving bandwidth and energy efficiency. Volume production still requires solutions for alignment accuracy, heat dissipation and warpage caused by differences in materials’ thermal expansion. Customer qualification and TSMC’s capacity expansion should be assessed together; the longer-term technology roadmap remains an expectation.

GPUs, CPUs and ASICs

  • Nvidia: According to supply-chain sources, Vera Rubin has begun volume shipments. Related servers are expected to ramp further in Q4 2026 and become a major revenue contributor in 2027. Demand for H-series and GB-series systems remains strong, although component mismatches continue to affect deliveries.

Nvidia is expected to begin adopting SoIC-X from Q4 2027. In optical interconnects, TSMC’s COUPE is already used in Spectrum-X Photonics.

In quantum computing, CUDA-Q and NVQLink support real-time error-correction decoding and heterogeneous-system orchestration, with connectivity spanning 17 hardware vendors and nine national laboratories. Software connectivity is a key opportunity; independent controllers establishing alternative decoding standards represent a risk.

  • Intel: Its 3D packaging technology has reached volume production, with further interconnect-pitch reductions the next priority. Supply-chain sources report that Foveros Direct, with a 9 μm pitch, entered volume production on Clearwater Forest in H1 2026. The second generation targets 3 μm.

Denser connections improve chip-to-chip data transfer, but taller stacks make cooling lower dies and managing thermal stress between materials more difficult. Next-generation processes should be assessed against pitch targets, actual yields and system thermal management. Specification gains alone do not establish manufacturing readiness.
